pynetdesign.modelling.utils.calculate_Mw(M0)

Calculates the moment magnitude \(M_w\) according to Kanamori (1977) using formula

\[M_w = \frac{2}{3}\left(\log_{10}(M_0)-9.1\right)\]

where \(M_0\) is the seismic moment.

Parameters:

M0array_like

seismic moment

Returns:

Mwarray_like

moment magnitude

Notes

Replaces all non-positive values of M0 by nan
